Journey for taking a federal bill idea, Keeping Mom & Baby Together Act to Congress
12 years ago my advocacy for Maternal Health began with a loss and a dream of being a mom.
In 2012, after I was married I thought that becoming a mom would be easy. No one in my family told me of pregnancy issues. Once I became pregnant, I began decorating the nursery and picking out baby clothes. One afternoon while I was putting on crib sheets, I looked down to realize I had miscarried.
I was told so many things the following days. "It was probably never a baby to begin with...most likely a heavy period." "There was something most likely wrong with it." "What did you do to cause the miscarriage?" "Just cry at home in private for the weekend and move on." While these messages came from good places, I quickly realize that moms are conditioned to suffer in silence.
Today I am working at ending the silence and bringing Maternal Health into the forefront of society and healthcare.
Breaking the silence together.
Together, let's break the silence and bring forth awareness on Maternal Health so we can make the system and culture better for our daughters.
