Advocating for the Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act

Advocating for the Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act

August 03, 20251 min read

In July 2025, I took part in the Cindy Pellegrini Advocacy Day, organized by the March of Dimes, where I advocated for the Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act. This legislation focuses on tackling maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States. As a Maternal and Child Health Advocate, I shared my personal story of nearly losing my life to toxic shock syndrome eight weeks after giving birth to my daughter, Alice, highlighting the critical need for ongoing support of this essential legislation.

During the event, I had the honor of connecting with fellow advocates who are deeply committed to enhancing outcomes for infants born prematurely. Our discussions were enlightening and emphasized the importance of comprehensive policies that can create meaningful change for families facing similar hardships.

Throughout the day, I was reminded of the strength of collective advocacy and the difference we can make when we join our voices for a shared cause.
