When my youngest daughter, Alice, was born she was five and a half weeks early. Since she had become breech with a torn sac and little embryonic fluid left, Alice was born with an emergency caesarean section. 24 hours after Alice's birth, her lung collapsed and I authorized her to have neonatal transfer 45 minutes away to another hospital with an better equipped NICU.

I was unfortunately denied Maternal transfer. The hospital was under no obligation to do so. The time between a mom and baby is precious. Every moment counts. That is why I drafted Keeping Mom & Baby Together Act so that so mom will be separated from her baby in the event of an emergency.

I am in the process of advocating for Maternal Health and seeking sponsorship for this bill at the federal level.
